Born To Be Wild Adventures is a mobile watercraft rental service that operates seven days a week year round weather permitting.

I started the business on maternity leave with my daughter. My drive was to have work she could be with me for. I began planning when she was weeks old and took my first kayak reservation when she was five months old in April of 2018.

I had grown up with my father running a similar business renting kayaks and taking people on adventures. Those experiences were part of my upbringing, so I chose to continue that legacy under the same name he used, Born To Be Wild Adventures.

I began with what I had, six mismatched kayaks, a small trailer and my Jeep.

I chose for rates not to be hourly which is typical of the industry, instead a different approach of rates per day for affordability and less strain on the outing. That structure had positive feedback from tourists and the local community. Every year the business grew, I was able to acquire more inventory and eventually a more reliable vehicle. After two years running the operation solo I was able to hire my first employee. The help was a huge stepping stone to expand.

Currently we are nearing the end of the sixth summer with an amazing team and three trucks that deliver watercraft to Watson, Willow & Goldwater lakes. Our inventory now includes single & tandem kayaks, paddle boards, canoes & pedal boats giving different options to access the water with seating now for over a hundred people. This business has given me a creative outlet. From designing my own logo and shirts to coming up with clever ways to advertise on social media. For all six summers we have hosted Moonlight Kayaking which is a magical experience where we offer rentals in the evening sending people out with glow sticks and lanterns in one of Prescott’s most unique landscapes under the moon and stars.

It’s also given me a way to give back to our community by being able to sponsor events, donate to fundraisers and cross advertise with other local businesses.

I’m grateful for how well this business endeavor has been accepted by the community and allowed me to connect with so many wonderful people. Everyday I feel blessed to do what I do and show my daughter new adventures.
